FAQ's

Question: Can I use Interact 6.02 to make changes, and download to older style PowerStations like the P31-212-AR?

Answer: You can download a version 6.0 project or restore a version 6.0 backup to this vintage of PowerStation using either IPM or the IPM compatible download in the MachineShop Toolbar. However, there is a problem when returning to the shell from Interact on these units when running Interact 6.0. Once you have downloaded the project, if you try to exit Interact and return to the shell, the shell is not displayed correctly and in inaccessible. If you wish to run Interact version 6.0 on these units, you would want to stop the boot up at the shell and then run Interact. That way, if you need to return to the shell, you can reboot the unit and it will stop at the shell. This is an issue that is being currently investigated in engineering. Until we have a resolution on this, We would recommend that these unit not be upgraded to Interact 6.0.

Question:Will IPM download a MachineShop/Interact 6.0x project to the PowerStation Shell and/or make a backup of an Interact 6.0x application?

Answer: Yes to both questions. By manipulating the path settings in IPM, IPM can be used to create project backups of either Interact 5.21 or MachineShop/Interact 6.0x projects. IPM will download any project or restore any project backup to the PowerStation Shell.

Question: Can I restore an IPM backup on a MachineShop Shell PowerStation?

Answer: Yes, you can restore an IPM backup using the IPM compatible download feature of the MachineShop Toolbar. Another alternative is to use the MachineShop Shell to restore the Interact 5.21 project backup via floppy directly on the unit. The MachineShop Shell will recognize and restore backups created using IPM. In addition, the PowerStation Shell will recognize and restore project backups created with the MachineShop Toolbar via floppy on the PowerStation. The bottom line is, if you are working with backups, it does not matter what you have used to create the backup, IPM or the MachineShop Toolbar, or what you are using to restore the backup, IPM, the MachineShop Toolbar, or via floppy on a PowerStation with either the MachineShop Shell or the PowerStation Shell, you will be able to restore the backup. The only thing that cannot be done with IPM is to transfer projects or project backups serially to the MachineShop Shell.
